Project Overview
2 no. boreholes to max depth of 101m below seabed level, continuous sonic sampling from mudline utilizing single and dual wall core barrels to depths of 30m below seabed. Wison CPT also mobilized in conjunction with drilling spread to deploy in suitable formations up to depths of 30m below seabed. Geobor S wireline coring from 30m to over 100m with full recovery throughout in very challenging and unexpected ground conditions.
Equipment used: CRS XL Sonic-Rotary drilling rig. Van den berg 50kn 3m tool. Van den berg WCPT winch fitted with 150m umbilical.
Project Highlights
Highly successful project in a very remote location in the Gulf of Suez which challenged the upper limits of Geobor S wireline coring equipment without use of seabed frame. 60m water depths, adverse weather and tidal conditions, difficult encountered formation proved a demanding drilling environment. Remote location along with minimal logistical support available.
Very thorough mobilization of equipment with plenty of spares from UK to ensure efficient operation of highly dynamic drilling spread, minimizing impact of downtime and project delay. Many general challenges were overcome throughout the campaign that ensured timely completion, with a complex range of data and sample quality achieved.
